Characteristics: E. citriodora oil is colourless to pale-yellow with a, citronella like lemon overtone and fresh green scent. This is a very similar smell to the crushed leaves.
Properties: Analgesic, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic, antiseptic, antiviral, astringent, anti-fungal, deodorant, depurative, diuretic, expectorant, hypoglycaemic, stimulant, vulnerary.
Main Constituents: Citronellal, Citronellol, Isopulegol
Uses: The unrefined oil is mainly used in perfumery. While the refined oil is used in mosquito repellent products.
Blends well with: Basil, cedarwood, citronella, frankincense, ginger, juniper, lavender, lemon, niaouli, pine, peppermint, rosemary, spearmint, tea tree, thyme.
Interesting Facts: E. citriodora flourished when supplies of citronella oil from East Asia were limited in the 1950's.
Safety: Non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitizing at 10% dilution. Toxic if undiluted therefore not to be taken internally. Contact with eyes and mouth should be avoided.
